Let's Work Together for a Clean Powered Future

Lobbying for change against the odds in Ottawa

The great outdoors sure are freeing, but you wanna talk about true freedom - How liberating would it be to be independent of volatile global fossil fuel industry that makes it so expensive to live and enjoy our lives?!

Decentralizing our energy market would create less volatility and more predictable affordability across all sectors, while creating an equitable and democratized system that empowers Indigenous and rural communities to build clean energy infrastructure, while also creating jobs that bring all of us along in a just transition towards a better future.

Recent polls show that over 76% of Canadians are in favour of this direction, yet despite that being an overwhelming majority, the odds are still very stacked in big oils favour.

I went out to Ottawa to lobby for that future with @protectourwinterscanada and @davidsuzukifdn along with 12 other NGOs from across Canada, where we organized over 37 meetings with MPs and policy makers to help steer policy in the direction a majority of us want to go…but that’s nothing compared to the high-paid lobbyists representing the oil and gas industry. On average, they hold over 1100 meetings every year to further fossil fuel dominance over global energy, which comes down to about 5 meetings every working day of the year!

It may seem daunting and futile, but its important to remember that these elected officials were elected to serve us, the people, and therefore its critical to stay engaged and tell them what sort of future you want. We all have a role to play with no one of us being more important than another, and me using my voice in person is no more important than you sending an email, writing a letter, or picking up the phone to advocate for that same future, because every effort counts!

Take Action!

We’re all in this together, so let’s work together to create a renewable energy future in which we all can thrive, so we can spend our time shredding powder, and not fueling power.
