Love the outdoors? Welp, the feeling is mutual!
The Outdoor Recreation industry in Canada generates over 1.1 million jobs annually, which is significantly more than either the Forestry or Oil & Gas industries create, and it contributes over $100 billion to the economy, which is more than the entire Canadian Forestry industry, and second to Oil & Gas as the largest sector in the country.
Outdoor Recreation is a huge part of Canadian life, with over 78% of canadians participating in some form of it. Even though 85% of the population is in favor of more public funding for parks, protected areas and increased investment in outdoor recreation, policy making often still favors the continued extraction of resources that contribute to climate change and threaten the ecosystems these activities rely on…which is not very chill.
It’s time we change that!
Check out the full study to learn how shifting our focus and investing in protecting these areas while also building sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities, and taking serious action on climate, can help keep the lands and waters we live amongst and the cultures and communities they support healthy and vibrant well into the future.
